Early dismissal on April 8 during solar eclipse

HTSD will have an early dismissal for all students on Monday, April 8 to ensure that everyone is home safely throughout the beginning and end of the solar eclipse. 

Dismissal times are as follows: 

  • 12:10 p.m. Hampton Middle School

  • 12:40 p.m. Hampton High School

  • 1:30 p.m. Elementary Schools


A.W. Beattie Career Center will not offer a PM session and all AWBCC students will be transported home at 12:40 p.m. AM Kindergarten will be from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., while PM Kindergarten will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

All after-school athletic and extracurricular activities will begin at 4:30 p.m. Scheduled games will begin at 5 p.m. or later. 

Additionally, students who are absent from school on Monday, April 8 will be given an excused educational absence.

"We believe that this decision strikes a balance between maintaining educational continuity and prioritizing the health and safety of students, faculty, staff and bus drivers," said Dr. Michael R. Loughead, Superintendent.
